Veterinarians

Dr. Brian Silvis

Dr. Brian is the Medical Director of Pets in Harmony Veterinary Hospital, Allegheny North Veterinary Hospital (Perrysville), Tender Touch Veterinary Hospital (Wexford). He primarily sees patients here in Harmony, but works at all three hospitals as needed to provide care for our community’s pets throughout the North Hills of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Brian completed his B.S. in Biology at Westminster College, before earning his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ohio State University in 1999. He worked in Erie, PA after graduation and helped found an emergency clinic before moving to Pittsburgh.

Dr. Brian’s family includes his wife, Kate (a professor at LaRoche College) and two beautiful children, Phillip and Clara. He enjoys spending time with his family, attending baseball games, and playing video games.

The Silvis family shares their home with two Pugs: Floyd and Forest, and two cats: Tigger and a Siamese rescue named Lilly.

Dr. Daniel Brugos

A 2012 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Brugos has special interests in small animal internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, and veterinary dentistry. A lifelong love for animals led him to dedicate his career to keeping pets healthy and happy.

After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Brugos returned home to Pittsburgh, where he now resides in New Brighton with his wife Andrea, their dog Opie, and two cats: Zelda and Motorboat. His free time is spent outdoors whenever possible: hiking, biking, fishing, golfing, and working on home improvements.

Veterinary Support Staff

Mary Jo, Hospital Manager/Lead CVT

Mary Jo attended the Median School of Allied Health Careers (now known as the Vet Tech Institute of Pittsburgh) and has been in the veterinary field since 1992. After working at Avalon Vet with Dr. Moore for 23 years, she joined the Allegheny North team at our sister hospital in Pittsburgh in 2015 before helping Dr. Silvis open Pets in Harmony in 2017.

She serves many important roles in our hospital, managing inventory, providing client education and being a patient presence that offers concern and compassion to clients and their furry kids. Her favorite aspects of working in veterinary medicine are accompanying Dr. Silvis on house calls and watching puppies and kittens grow into their senior years.

Mary Jo enjoys spending time with her husband Mike, walking and playing with Nero (a rescued Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix – see his bio below!), and going to the movies and baking cookies with her younger brother. You might also spot her and Mike riding around Fombell on their Harley!

Kayla, CVT

Kayla works primarily here at Pets in Harmony, but also helps out at our sister clinic in Wexford (Tender Touch Veterinary Hospital)! She has been part of our veterinary family since 2022, bringing with her 8 years of experience in the field. Building relationships with clients is very important to her, and she enjoys helping new pet owners navigate their exciting journey into furry companionship. She works throughout the hospital in exam rooms, surgery, and has a particular interest in dentistry.

Though we only see dogs and cats in our office, Kayla has some interesting experience working with exotics, including an internship with polar bears & sea otters at the Pittsburgh Zoo, birds at the National Aviary, and big cats at a rescue in Florida!

Kayla and her husband share their home in Butler with two Goldendoodles (Koda & Leo) and Ariel the cat, rescued from a previous job when an elderly client could no longer care for her. She spends her spare time hanging out with family & friends, enjoying the outdoors and traveling.

NERO

Chief Morale Officer/Front Desk Greeter

Nero has been welcoming clients and pets at the front desk since 2017 when he was just 8 weeks old. Despite having no customer service experience before joining Pets in Harmony, he has a natural talent for spreading joy and smiles, and always comes to work well-dressed.

His favorite part about working here? “People petting me and telling me how cute I am, letting little boys & girls hold me, and helping my coworkers eat their lunch!”

Nero has a very calm demeanor in the office, but is full of energy at home with mom Mary Jo & dad Mike. He loves sassing his parents & grandparents, going to the park, laying in the sun, taking naps with Pap Pap and riding on the Harley.
