Tawnya joined Dr. Silvis in overseeing his three practices in 2022 and brings with her more than 30 years of experience in business and team management. She has a strong passion for pet care and is deeply committed to building a workplace culture rooted in fairness, accountability, and fun.

She is known for her strong listening skills and her ability to navigate complex situations with thoughtful, solution-focused leadership.

Tawnya has led teams in both private and corporate-owned veterinary practices, as well as in industries outside of veterinary medicine. Her love for animals also inspired her to found a 501(c)(3) dog rescue in Beaver County.

Tawnya lives in Chippewa Township with her husband, daughter, and one dog, Ditto (a Cattle Dog/Pit mix). She also has three sons, two of whom live out of state, and two grand-cats named Greyson and Malibu.

Mary Jo

Mary Jo, Lead Veterinary Technician

Mary Jo attended the Median School of Allied Health Careers (now known as the Vet Tech Institute of Pittsburgh) and has been in the veterinary field since 1992. After working at Avalon Vet with Dr. Moore for 23 years, she joined the Allegheny North team at our sister hospital in Pittsburgh in 2015 before helping Dr. Silvis open Pets in Harmony in 2017.

She serves many important roles in our hospital, managing inventory, providing client education, and being a patient presence that offers concern and compassion to clients and their furry kids. Her favorite aspects of working in veterinary medicine are accompanying Dr. Silvis on house calls and watching puppies and kittens grow into their senior years.

Mary Jo enjoys spending time with her husband, Mike, walking and playing with Nero (a rescued Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix – see his bio below!), and going to the movies and baking cookies with her younger brother. You might also spot her and Mike riding around Fombell on their Harley!

Rebecca

Rebecca - Certified Veterinary Technician

Rebecca graduated from the Vet Tech Institute of Pittsburgh in 2014. She originally dreamed of becoming a veterinarian but found her true calling as a veterinary nurse, where she takes pride in caring for patients and supporting their families.

Her professional interests include emergency and urgent care, as well as oncology, where she is currently expanding her skills while working closely with Dr. Silvis. Having a dog undergoing cancer treatment herself, she brings both clinical knowledge and personal empathy to these cases and finds it incredibly rewarding to help families gain more quality time with their pets.

Outside of work, Rebecca shares her home with a lively “zoo” that includes a Pomchi named Phoebe, two Samoyeds (Maverick and Yeti), two rescued cats (Sebastian and Dahlia), an Amazon parrot named Spyder, and plenty of chickens. She enjoys spending time with friends, family, and her animals—and is excited to soon welcome a new little human to the mix.

Nero

Nero, Chief Morale Officer/Front Desk Greeter (2017-2025)*

Nero has been welcoming clients and pets at the front desk since 2017, when he was just 8 weeks old. Despite having no customer service experience before joining Pets in Harmony, he has a natural talent for spreading joy and smiles, and always comes to work well-dressed.

His favorite part about working here? “People petting me and telling me how cute I am, letting little boys & girls hold me, and helping my coworkers eat their lunch!”

Nero has a very calm demeanor in the office, but is full of energy at home with mom Mary Jo & dad Mike. He loves sassing his parents & grandparents, going to the park, lying in the sun, taking naps with Pap Pap, and riding on the Harley.

**Nero was a beloved member of our team for many years, greeting clients and offering comfort to staff and visitors alike. He has now retired from his duties, but his pawprints will always remain a part of our hospital’s story.
